A scientist who studies murder in all its most painful and hideous manifestations puts his new formula for chemical terror on the auction block in Gotham City. Can Batman and Batgirl find the auction in time to prevent the sickest minds in the world from laying their hands on "Death in a Bottle?"

Batman and Batgirl track down Doctor Death, who is supplying a deadly poison to the Russian mafia in Gotham and auctioning it off to other foreign interests, including a bidder from Tarakstan. In the midst of the investigation, Batman finds out about Batgirl's recent visit to Kansas and warns her not to spend any more time with Superboy.
